Virtual Spring Show Success

Jane Mullan

The British Palomino Society held a Virtual Spring Show mid May due to the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic forcing the cancellation of the normal Spring show. Competitors were required to video their horses and ponies performing an individual show (either in hand or ridden), just as they would at a normal show.

There was a wide selection of Palomino and Cream Dilute classes, plus some additional “fun classes” put on by the Society. Competitors entered using a new system created by Showing Scene, which was straightforward and easy to use.

The British Palomino Society panel judges then logged into the showing scene to judge the classes, cup of tea in hand!

The show was really well supported, and people who would often be too nervous to compete at a show blossomed being able to take part in a familiar environment.

It was lovely to see the younger generation also getting involved, and they certainly saw some success. The Palomino Ridden Championship went to the fabulous Welsh section A Glebedale Sugar Babe ridden by Amy Edmonson. Reserve spot was also clinched by a junior rider, Casey Cohane riding Littlecourt Showboat. Both gave a polished performance beyond their years.

The Palomino Inhand Championship and overall Best in Show was awarded to the 2 year old Welsh Section C Fencers Golden Addition owned by Hannah De Boorder. At just 2 years old this smashing filly already has a tally of wins to her name, including Reserve Supreme Palomino Inhand at the 2019 British Palomino Society National Championships and Supreme Palomino Inhand at the 2019 British Palomino Society Autumn Show. She certainly has a promising career in front of her. "There's a lot to like about this quality filly. True to type with lovely movement. One to watch for the future, I'm looking forward to seeing her under saddle in years to come" said Palomino judge Ms D Coldicutt.

Reserve Palomino Inhand Champion went to Grassendale Golden Legend owned by Danni Grogan and Ann Langton. At 19 years old the Part Bred Arab still looks fantastic and puts on a show.

The Cream Dilute classes are open to all horses with a cream dilute gene. This includes buckskins, cremellos, perlinos, smokey black and coloured dilutes (eg. palomino and white). This year’s Spring Show Cream Dilute Championship went to the lovely Andalusian Silva Lowki owned by Miss Jenni Zawadazka, who also took the title in 2019. Judge Miss J Regan said “I really liked his balanced and flowing paces. He is a lovely type with plenty of limb and substance.”

Reserve Cream Dilute went to Corstan Aristocrat owned by Faye Bircher. Only a yearling, the buckskin Welsh Section C colt is already a little showman.
